8. Get the shot at Mirador de San Nicolas
An Uber or bus from the centre of town to this lookout spot is imperative. For a start, it sits above the Albaicin district – a cobbled warren of bars, restaurants and shops that is easier to appreciate going downhill. It’s main draw, though, is that it’s roughly the same elevation as the Alhambra across the valley so you get a sense of the palace’s scale. Throw in a back drop of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and you have the ingredients for the perfect shot. The place can get thronged though but wait your turn reading one of the myriad noticeboards that detail the history of the zone or watch the inevitable kaftaned tourists dancing to one of the inevitable guitarists that perform here. Apparently, anything by the Gypsy Kings is ideal for having an Eat, Pray, Love moment.
