Hong Kong travellers boost insurance uptake on personal safety concerns

In particular, the fear of losing travel documents is greater.

According to Allianz Partners, approximately 90% of Hong Kong’s travelers see as essential, driven by the main concerns about personal safety, disease, extreme climate and trip interruption.

“With the mid -year holiday peak, we hope that the demand for travel will remain high in the age groups and continue for the rest of the year,” said Vinay Surana, managing director of Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa, Allianz Partners Hong Kong, in a press release.

Allianz Partners has launched its inaugural “Travel Index 2025”, developed in association with Kantar Consumer Link, which highlighted a strong increase in travel insurance absorption among Hong Kong travelers.

Commonly reported concerns about personal security (53%), extreme climate (52%) and fall (53%).

In particular, the fear of losing travel documents is higher among Hong Kong travelers (43%) than the APAC average (31%), which reflects a greater sensitivity to travel related risks.

Despite depending largely on social media platforms such as YouTube for travel planning (77%), only 35%of Hong Kong travelers use security or alert applications, the APAC average 38%, illuminating a gap between the inspiration of the trip and risk management.

The preference for short -distance trips remains strong, with 50% of respondents who favor intra Asia destinations.

Travelers are making shorter trips of 5 to 8 days, spending an average of $ 1,780, slightly more than colleagues in neighboring markets.

These trends point to spontaneous trips oriented to the family, but also underline the need for reliable insurance coverage, especially since 46% are concerned about flight delays and 40% about luggage problems.

The Allianz Partners 2025 travel index surveyed 500 consumers in Hong Kong between February 10 and 16, 2025, and is part of a broader study in other Asia-Pacific markets, including Australia, New Zealand, Continental China, India and Japan.
