Dubai in the United Arab Emirates is safe and the best city for solo travelers, said a March study. However, a human rights group warned for years that women do not have the same rights in the country, and the United States Department of State warns that women should be careful when walking alone there.

The study was conducted by the Insuremytrip travel insurance comparison website. He evaluated 62 cities worldwide based on the data in eight categories: feeling safe walking only at night, feeling safe despite gender, gender equality, a global peace and safety index, hotel classifications, quality of things to do and the average cost per day.

Krakow, Poland was classified as the second best city for women alone, followed by Madrid, Spain and Munich, Germany. Munich was also summoned as the safest of all the cities studied.

Hong Kong ended as the worst city for women traveling, and Orlando was named second worse. Delhi, India, was summoned as the least safe city.

Dubai received high scores for feeling safe walking just at night, feeling safe despite the genre, the quality of the things to do and the popularity of Tiktok. The city’s crime rate is very low, and most of the public transport offers an exclusive section for women, said Insuremytrip.

However, the insurance website said that “it is essential to investigate Dubai’s laws and strict clothing code before visiting, because women must dress modestly when they are in public areas.” Violating these rules could result in an imprisonment and deportation of a month, said the website.

The non -profit organization Human Rights Watch says that the United Arab Emirates have made “limited reforms”, which prohibits discrimination based on sex and gender and the elimination of a legal obligation for women to obey their husbands. “However, these reforms fall short for uprooting all forms of discrimination against women, especially male guardianship over women.”

Several travel websites cite Dubai as a safe destination, but the United States Department of State Department issues warnings to US travelers.

“American citizens, especially women, must take precautions against the possibility of verbal and physical harassment or sexual aggression by walking alone, consuming alcohol or traveling in a taxi,” says the State Department. “Taxi passengers should avoid sitting in the front seat of a taxis and should be sensitive to small conversations can be misunderstood as an excessive expression or even a form of proposal by some taxi drivers.”
