Singapore Airlines Business Class seat types by route to October 2025
With schedules now confirmed through to October 2025, here’s which of the five different Singapore Airlines Business Class seat types you can expect on your next flight.
Singapore Airlines recently confirmed its flight schedules for the northern summer season from April 2025 through to October 2025, including days of operation and aircraft type allocation, which means it’s time for the latest update to our longstanding guide to the carrier’s onboard products in Business Class, by route and individual flight number.
SIA has already rebuilt its passenger seat capacity close to pre-pandemic levels, and this summer the carrier will operate around 85% of capacity by flight volumes, compared to the pre-COVID combined SIA / SilkAir operation.
That means an almost full return to a healthy mix of aircraft types, routes and cabin products for the airline, including the latest flat-bed seats on the Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft fleet.
Five Business Class seat types
With five different Business Class seat types installed across the Singapore Airlines fleet, one of the most common questions we are asked by our readers is what kind of seat they will have on their upcoming flight, or which flight to pick on a particular route to ensure they secure their preferred seat type.

Since COVID-19 we’ve said goodbye to two older seat models in this cabin – the 2009 Regional Business Class and the 2006 Long Haul Business Class, but two new narrow-body products have been introduced at the pointy end of Boeing 737s, following the merger of SilkAir into mainline SIA operations.
Here’s a summary of the five different Business Class seat types currently in use across the fleet.
Singapore Airlines is launching a new long-haul Business Class seat for the Airbus A350 Long Haul and Airbus A350 ULR aircraft, due to start flying on retrofitted aircraft from early 2026, so look out for a 2026 J cabin joining the list next year!
Notable changes for summer 2025
In many cases Business Class seat types for the summer 2025 season are a continuation of the current allocation for each city on the network, but there are a few notable changes or points of interest worth highlighting this year:
“Fifth freedom” flights between Milan and Barcelona will be suspended between mid-June and mid-September this year, in favour of non-stop flights from Singapore to both cities during this peak period, temporarily removing the option to fly in the 2013 J seats on these short intra-Europe hops.
Delhi temporarily loses the Airbus A380 on one of its daily flights (SQ406/403) between 23rd June and 27th July, with a downgauge to the Boeing 777-300ER during this period – a shift from the newer 2017 J seats to the 2013 J instead.
Dubai sees the return of long-haul Business Class seats with the Boeing 777-300ER taking over daily flights from April 2025, instead of the Airbus A350 Medium Haul – a shift from the 2018 RJ product to the more spacious 2013 J.
Ho Chi Minh will continue to receive Airbus A350 Long Haul aircraft on two out of three daily services between late March and late October, with Business Class passengers on SQ178/177 and SQ184/183 able to enjoy the added space and comfort of 2013 J seats on these short flights.
Jakarta once again sees some Airbus A350 Medium Haul operation wth 2018 RJ seats this summer – on all SQ968/951 flights and on SQ960/961 between April and August, probably regarded as a downgrade from the 2013 J cabins on Airbus A350 Long Haul and Boeing 777-300ERs used on other flights on this route.
Kathmandu sadly retains Boeing 737-800 operation throughout the winter season, with ex-SilkAir 738 RJ recliner seats in Business Class on these five-hour services. The long-promised switch to Boeing 737-8 MAX operation on this route has now been pushed back again, tentatively to late October 2025.
Mumbai temporarily loses the Airbus A380 on one of its daily flights (SQ406/403) between 28th July and 31st August, with a downgauge to the Boeing 777-300ER during this period – a shift from the newer 2017 J seats to the 2013 J instead.
Phuket returns to all-Boeing 737-8 MAX (MAX RJ seat) operation this summer, as Boeing 737-800s continue to be phased out of the fleet.
Shanghai temporarily gains the Airbus A380 on one of its daily flights (SQ830/833) between 23rd June and 31st August, instead of the Boeing 777-300ER during this period – an upgrade from the older 2013 J seats to the 2017 J instead.
Sydney temporarily loses the Airbus A380 on one of its two regular daily superjumbo flights (SQ221/232) during May 2025, with a downgauge to the Boeing 777-300ER during this period – a shift from the newer 2017 J seats to the 2013 J instead.
Tokyo Narita temporarily gains the Airbus A380 on one of its daily flights (SQ638/637) during May 2025, while the the Boeing 777-300ER will operate those flights during April 2025, instead of regular year-round Boeing 787-10 operation. This will mean an upgrade to 2017 J / 2013 J seats during these periods – from the usual 2018 RJ product.

Business Class seats by route and flight number
We’ve updated our seat type list through to the end of the IATA northern summer 2025 season (which runs from 30th March until 25th October 2025) to help you avoid the guesswork by offering an A-Z destination list, flight number by flight number, seat type by seat type.

Substitutions can occur
The data for this information is based on GDS timetables and programmed seat layouts, and is correct at 2nd February 2025.
We keep it updated at least once per week to ensure it’s a useful long-term reference whenever aircraft types or seat types on a route change.
However, do bear in mind that the list may not be 100% up to date at all times and Singapore Airlines always reserves the right to substitute a different aircraft type at the last minute on any flight due to operational requirements.
This can occur even on the day of operation, so you’re never guaranteed a particular seat type until you step on board.
What about First Class and Suites?
We have an equivalent guide showing where the First Class seat and Suite types are flying around the SIA network, through to October 2025.
