Earlier this month, I supported an eight -hour flight to Europe on the road and a nine -hour flight on the way home. And let me tell you that this experience would have been much better if I had decided to update to the executive class.
When you fly from executive class, you get a much more comfortable seat that can make a long flight more bearable. You also win and dinner beyond meals not so great that your counterparts in the economy have to settle.

Despite the benefits of flying in executive class, I decided not to update on my recent trip. Not only that, but I have never flown the executive class, point. And there is a reason for that.
When you get used to something good
A few years ago, I organized a New Year’s Eve party, and a friend of mine who is very well informed about the wine brought a expensive bottle to share. I have never thought about myself like a wines snob and I usually refuse to spend more than $ 20 in a bottle. But let me tell you that this bottle of $ 100 that my friend brought was something good. And although I still have to treat that brand since then, I have been tempted.
Once you try the good life, be it a good wine, an improved hotel suite or a more pleasant car, it becomes more difficult to return. And that is a problem to fly in executive class. Once you get used to that comfortable seat that is flat, you can discover that it is really a miserable flying economy in those times that you cannot pay the update.
When you spend so much on a flight that is little money for the rest of your trip
The other problem with the update to the executive class? You can spend both on your flight that you must spare on activities or accommodation for the rest of your trip.
On my recent trip to Europe, I saved money by not paying an executive class ticket. Because of this, I could pay a more pleasant hotel that was not only comfortable but downtown, giving me easy access to the views I wanted to see.
Do not hurry to update the executive class
If you have credit card points or miles, you may be anxious to update to the executive class, and that is totally well. But if you are looking to pay your pocket, you may want to think twice before overthrowing on a more comfortable flight.
You may want to ask how important it is for you to sleep on the plane. I admit that I would probably have benefited from a business class ticket on the way to Europe, since that could have allowed me to sleep a little and minimize my time lag. However, on the way home, I specifically did not want to sleep too much on the plane, so my decision to stick to the economy made sense.
Ultimately, there is nothing wrong with dealing with a business class ticket if you can balance it. But think about pros and cons before spending extra money.
